Reorganizing, Refreshing, & Replacing

organized Closet- I have vowed to wear EVERYTHING in here.... and what I do not wear, I will get rid of in 12 months. You will be getting photo documentation of my clothes from this day forward. :)
How will I know if I've worn it?: I turned the hangers backward on the rods, in order to keep track of what I have worn. I turn them around after I hang them back up when they have been worn.

Walker, Texas Ranger is getting BIGGER AND BIGGER each minute, it seems. Hes sleeping in the mornings a lot because he is NOT sleeping well at night... trust me. ;o)

My glasses broke in half: as much as I am enjoying the harry potter look; I am NOT enjoying my glasses melting off of my nose while im driving. I will be getting new eyes shortly. :o)

Walking in Love

First of all, I know I've been out of commission on the creative stuff for a while. I had a family member pass away earlier this month and have been with family in the southeast. I was doing my morning meditation today and just had to blog. :) It was on walking in love. This is something that I think is so essential to the well being of everyone, and the purpose we are on this earth. To let people know that THEY MATTER! above anything, I feel this is the greatest gift you can give anyone. Be it, a card in the mail, a simple word of encouragement, a note, a small gift, a gesture of service to help their needs in any way.

Below is a picture of an example of two wonderful people that chose to walk in love yesterday and just blessed my heart when they didnt even have any idea where I was at the moment. I needed it, and it was perfect timing! What a gift! Thank you ladies!

PARTICIPATE!:

During a Holiday season when many cannot afford much, I urge you to participate. Feeling a bit bummed myself that I can't offer much financially to my family I realize its more for me than them. I get something out of giving. Try it, I dare you.

I have decided that I am going to do a few post over the next week or so of people I "catch" walking in love. Ill post a photo and a little blurb. I hope I catch you. ;)

This past weekend was a wonderful time with those I love. Although, my husband and I were disappointed to discover that we couldn't make the trip across the country for Thanksgiving to be with family. I was pleasantly surprised at what a gift this week has been. Just to put in perspective the things to be thankful for. We did miss our family, but were welcomed by others, got to give, and were blessed by gratefulness.

9:30 a.m. show up to volunteer for Operation Turkey!

We got to spend time with great friends and learned later that our efforts, combined with many others, fed over 4,000 in need on Thanksgiving afternoon. Thankful that we are all still capable to offer help physically, financially, and spiritually this season to those that cannot.

Personal gratitude: I am thankful for the husband that brought me these flowers on Friday. Along with the flowers he brought me cough drops (two kinds) vitamin booster stuff, chicken noodle soup, and a new candle. Now, I wasn't thankful for getting SICK the day after Thanksgiving. But I was thankful for the opportunity to see that I am married to man that will take care of me when I need him. :) thanks hubby.

I hope that, even if the circumstances you had envisioned weren't as expected or hoped this past Holiday, you saw the opportunity to be grateful for what came out of it. I have learned this lesson a lot lately. That we may not always get what we expect or feel what we "deserve" but God always provides the opportunity for joy among disappointment. However it's up to us to take the opportunity and run! :)

Last Friday night I went out with my roommate from Boston and Husband to visit the Album Art Show in east Austin. A friend of ours, Aaron Sacco, was one of the participating artists. There were six artists, and each chose and album to interpret. Each artists did an interpretation of each album, totaling 6 pieces of art per album. What a fantastic concept! :) overall, great show!

I have been working a lot with embellishing, embroidering, and sewing lately with some vintage fabrics that I have. Here are a pair of jeans that didnt have a fantastic behind. they were given to me witha sparkly "m" on the back. being that Im not really a bedazzled wearing kind of personality and my last name starts with an "m" I found it a bit odd and uncomfortable to wear and glitter "m" on my backside. I embellished it with this patchwork design and have since been asked it I do this for others. OF course I do! jsut send me your item to be revamped and I will gladly create a design in any pattern or color scheme you wish.

So, I had a show in Waco Yesterday at Common Grounds. It only lasted for 2 1/2 hours because of the rain. However, I was pleased wth the turnout for that small amount of time. :) I'd say worth it. Its always nice for a change of pace and town. Not too mention I started College here in the fall 10 yrs ago! So, of course, I had to get a frozen milky way coffee at Common Grounds. It by no means should be called a coffee, but a tasty dessert full of sugar overload! However, it was the frist coffee I got my first day at Baylor in 1999 by the recommendation of my RA; Allyson "something or other"
This is a photo of my new patchwork and embellished embroidery rings. they are so great for wall decor. very organic looking to me. the fabrics are mostly my great grandmothers old material. however the background fabric (brown and orange) was a recent find.
I thought this would be a great way to display the bangle bracelets. I have simply repurposed a Starbucks coffee to-go tray. ( i think its genius) lightweight-no worries if it gets lost- and shows the bracelets well. The bracelets are part of my new wood burning adventure! I like these.
This is the next embroidery ring I have done. I just love the simple message of this one. :) And flowers are always a favorite. I think this would be great in a home entry way, kitchen, or childs room. Even next to a wedding photo on the wall. A small reminder of the love that should be present and nurtured in every home. :)
This past week we celebrated our two year anniversary! These are the flowers he brought home. bright and shining! Not to mention, they match the vase perfectly.

"Wooden" it be nice...

Its been a while since I have last blogged; I know. Shame on me. Ive been in sort of a introspective spirit. Deciding what shows to do/not to do. Creating a line sheet for wholesale purchases. And just getting acquainted with my newfound freelance fulltime career. ilike. God is doing some great things in life right now and Im enjoying every second of the ride. Below are a couple of pictures of my newest venture. Wood burning. I was telling my mother how funny it was that all of my "doodles" in school have turned into my designs on many of my pieces. I even have the proof of notebooks past. Let me know what you think.

AT HOME: Been doing things to fight off the flu season, like making homemade chicken noodle soup with lots of garlic! (tip: i made triple the recipe and stored about three containers in the freezer for later)

Also, We have opted out of the flu shot. I did some research and it just didnt seem sensible for us to do. SO; 1)we are cutting back on white sugar ( i read this helps your immue system)

2) taking a vitamin d-3 suppliment this i sto build up our bodies ability to fight anything off if we do get exposed

3) emergen-C when we are feeling a bit like something MAY be headed our way.

obviously, do your research, but its working here!

FUN NOTE: Our neighbor had golden retriever puppies (well her dog did) and we will be getting one! it will be a boy, so as to keep the peace with our gracie-lou who may feel threatened by another lady in the house. pics coming soon!

The sun coming through the bamboo leaves in our back yard, while we were getting an afternoon rain. we've missed the water falling from the sky this summer. glad to have you back.

I just had to post pics of the bamboo. :) We have finally gotten some rain! :) and the dew was simply gorgeous on the bamboo. I am happy we live here. It makes me feel like I live in a rain forest sometimes. When it rains, that is. haha

I know, it looks sunny, but, that's why I took a picture of the water on the leaves. :)

This is just refreshing to me right now, as I am on a journey to do only the creative! I left my part-time job on Friday and am headed on a different path; well, not that different just narrowing the focus a bit, I guess. My husband and I are getting excited about what this means for life ahead. its always a journey. But, not to get too overwhelmed, focus on the refresher that we have been getting with the rain, life, jobs, family and God. If we press through and focus on these things, it works. I hope you are having a fantastic Football season Kickoff weekend;smell it.... FALL IS HERE! :)

It's About Time

I mentioned last week that I was going to make clocks. Here are pics of an unfinished one, without all of the "clock parts" and the one at the bottom is the completed clock. :) Im diggin 'em.

The flame on this one made some awesome vibrant pinks on the copper, that isnt picking up as great on these photos. Ill have to invest in a better camera or a photo box. I think its about time.

this is a close up of the heart at the top of the piece. I like how it flows in with the vines.

The completed one was a process of cutting out the copper, drilling the hole and sanding it for the working parts. Second, I torched the the piece with blue and green enamel, accomplishing the "wave on the shore" effect at the bottom. I sanded the top left corner down to raw copper again and retorched it, getting the firey sun look. then, I hand etched the tree in the copper in layers, alternately torching and etching to create more depth in the tree.

Oh my! it is that time that I have been SO overwhelmed with "stuff to do" that i have neglected the blog. I keep thinking, "man, i need to blog about this or that" and then I sit down, and its all chaos in my brain. So, let me preface this with a warning that it WILL be Scattered and may make absolutely no sense if you aren't in my brain. :)

Things going on:
Deciding on Art shows to do this fall/winter season and how in the world I will make enough stuff. My husband bought me an iPhone; so yes, i've joined that party. But, once I get it down I think I may be more efficient and "on top" of things. So Far from September-December we have Austin Handmade Market once a month (September 12th), First Thursday on South Congress, We Make Stuff at Scoot Inn on (September 19th), Art show at Common Grounds in Waco on October 3rd with Harts-N-Crafts, Art Outside 2009 (October 9-11th) , Possibly Blue Genie Art Bazaar December 2nd-December 24th, and the Cherrywood Art Fair December 12-13th 2009,

Weddings & Special events~
I'm excited about the fact that I'm in the process of working on some other avenues to sell. I will be donating an item to love me do wedding event on September 27th along with a coupon for future brides to come to me for the design of Jewelry for the Big Day! Something I love being a part of. I am trying to spread the word on my custom bridal designs. So you future brides, let me know. I felt that this was a great avenue to go. Being in many weddings over the years, and my own; I notice that there are two very diverse choices for jewelry. There is the UBER expensive that, honestly, most cannot afford; or the UBER cheapo stuff that looks generic and leaves the bride with little choice in expressing her style by accessorizing on her wedding day. I am excited to dive into creating pieces for women for special events in their lives. Even proms, formal events, etc. Those times when we allow our inner little girl to dazzle and feel like a princess with whatever style we chose to express.

Handmade findings for other artist~
I noticed while at events that a few artists had asked me about ordering my handmade ear wires and findings to use for the pieces that they create. I had never thought about selling my handmade components to other artists. That may be what you call a "duh" statement. But I've found that it provides a supplemental income for my business, builds relationships with other artists, and allows them to use ALL handmade components if they don't have the supplies or time to create them for themselves. "I'd be glad to" :) I have learned that to Top Sellers on Etsy.com are artists that also sell supplies to others. This weekend I will complete my first order of handmade ear wires for to fantastic creatives http://www.gemjunkie.etsy.com/ and http://www.polishedtwo.etsy.com/. SCORE! FYI: GemJunkie is an amazing supplier of very fun beads and stones for almost ANY thing you may need to put together.

I have been trying to saturate my online presence.Boy, is this a job. Yay forhandmade support. Now i feel like a parrot, repeating myself on multiple sites. Listing items on sites such as etsy, Artfire, Facebook, facebook kiosk, etc... I will update when ALL of the shops are setup! the days of one website are over, you have to be present on five million different avenues to market your handmades. A lot of work, but kudos, to the world supporting Handmade!

WholeSale to Retailers around the country, world, and neighboring planets:
Ok, so maybe not planets yet. But there are a few ventures i'm itching to share with you about the posssibilities of Ruby Slipper Designs being found in Shops and galleries far from Austin, Tx. :) I will let you know when, where, and how. In the meantime, just put out that prayer for it to come into fruition. And if you know anyone, call me. ;)

CREATIVE IDEAS IN THE WORKS:

clocks: yes, get excited, i'm going into making clocks. those that know me may find it ironic that i would create a clock. go ahead. laugh.

wall decor: I am loving gray as my new neutral color accented with red and yellow. perhaps it was subliminal to the bombardment of these colors everywhere, that I didn't notice until i announced my new favorites. haha.

possibly a book: I know! WHAT?! we'll see. ;)

I am just discovering more and more each day how much I love strong relationships with people and how much God loves everyone. Yes, as most people say...I do belong from the 60's i think. haha. flower child a little bit.

lemonade and heart pendants

Today I have been busy working around the house. In an attempt to keep up with my promise to blog, i documented all of the creative things I did around the house. However, I neglected to put the camera card IN the camera, and don't have a cord to directly connect it. oops. I will just tell you.

I made lemonade, the real good kind, fresh lemons and all! My last attempt at lemonade, was a little sour and then too sweet where it was sweet and the sugar wasn't melted. Solution, I made a simple syrup with organic raw sugar and mixed the syrup with the lemon juice prior to adding cool water. all I can say is; its almost all gone. :)

I covered an unattractive wall light with a cool basket, creating a nice ambiance lighting effect. I really wish I could get the photos to you. i even took before and afters.

I did get pictures of the pendant I made today; and enameled copper two part piece. I made each piece separately and connected the heart and the base... i like. however, blogger is not wanted me to import pics right now. ... so, al pics will be added later. :)

Wednesday began My attempt at Blogging daily and posting new items daily for at least ONE WEEK! This is my way of trying to get myself in the habit of spending time promoting online. I have found that cross promoting on all online mediums has really increased my online presence and exposure. Yesterday, when I posted a new item on etsy I posted the link on twitter. Within 3 minutes I had 20 views! This was my way of tracking, to see if it really works...and IT DOES! so my advice tweet away. :) Here are a couple of things I made this morning. I am trying to create at least two pieces each morning to build up on stock for shows and such this fall! Its gonna be BUSY! :)

Floating in Circles

ABOVE: This was orginally created for a friend who saw something similar and asked if I could recreate it. Its hard when you are in the middle of a whirlwind of others to deviate from it and try something new. I have been so emmersed in enameling and firing lately, that the simpler and softer designs have kind of fallen away. Now they are back. I loved this so much that I wanted to tweek and play with it a little. as always, I gotta add something to it. haha.
ABOVE: is the result of the tweeking. I took copper wire and added one crystal of different colors, sizes, etc and soldered the cirlces in links together. Then, attached it to brass chain. I pickled the copper to get t\rid of some of the oxidization, but I didnt do it for too long, i kinda like the rusticness, AND the crystals cannot stay int he pickle solution too long or they will desinigrate. bummer.
For those of you that like going green; you'll be pleased to know that i use a non-toxic citrus pickle solution. :)
I love the delicateness of these cirlces, but the boldness of the style... as my friend andrea put it "this is probably my most favorite thing you have ever made!" yay for friend approval!

im thinking about doing a sterling one with all different shades of purple..hopefully ill post pics tomorrow.

Heartbeat

This pendant is designed based on the painting above that I started and haven't quite finished.
How Its Made:

As you can see, it is a cross with a wave over it. I have done this by layering different enamels and drawing the designs with a toothpick. I love this technique. It allows for so much creative freedom. I hand fire the copper in each layer, until I have the desired design. ......

The Story Behind the pieces:

My father-in-law gave me a book about a year ago titled "I would Die For you" . It is a testimony of a 16 yr old boy who chose to be obedient to what God called him to do. On his second trip to Peru, he contracted an infection and passed away. The book is about the fulfillment in his life beyond our comprehension, and more than most would ever dream of; even after living a "full" 100 yr. B.J. Higgins brought peace and Joy to so many people's lives, because he sought after "heartbeat obedience" to God. I really felt touched by this, and in turn challenged to live the same way.

Since reading that book, I have made the decision to live my life differently; For God's purpose and not mine. There is so much darkness and hate in this world, I have made the decision not to allow myself to get in the way of any light through my own selfish desires.

Thus, the painting and the pendant. These are illustrations to me of the heart standing alone;and in turn being over taken by the "wave" of obedience and experiencing such beauty and joy. The heart alone in this, would look lonely. but with the power, vibrancy & beauty of the wave, it is given life! The painting will have vines going t the top of the right side, I haven't added those yet. :) To me, this will represent giving the heart life and purpose.

Through my own life lessons, trial and error, unfortunately; I've learned to live for what I am called to do. Be a light in the darkness of our time. And that is the story of these pieces.

A little peek into the world of the designers heart. :)

On the 1st Thursday of every month, on South Congress in Austin,TX; the street is filled with music, yummy food, and awesome handmade pieces for you to purchase. Most of the items, you can not find in any stores around. This makes it somewhat like a treasure hunt for fantastic handmade goods; that no one else will have. Come on out and enjoy the sunset, a smoothie on a great Texas summer night! I'll be there!

Thankful For You..

I decided I needed a brand able tag for my pieces. I wanted to be able to let every customer know that i am thankful for their business, yet make it cute, simple and allow them to receive a gift even if they are purchasing just for themselves. Thus the following creation:

The red shoe represents my business name "Ruby Slipper Designs" and i love the brightness of the turq and the red.

So now when you purchase a piece from Ruby Slipper Designs, it will be tagged with a thank you, especially made by me. :)

My thoughts behind the "thankful for you" come originally from a bible verse "Every day I thank God for you" and also, appreciation for my clients believing in what I do.

I thought that if a person was purchasing this for a gift, they already have a gift tag that's cute and ready to pass on to the person. After all, if we are giving someone a gift, chances are, we would like to tell them that we are thankful for their presence in our lives anyway.

Lately I have been Hand Firing and Enameling Copper pieces. It's so fun! I cant wait to get more Colors for the enamel!
I first Cut my desired shape for the piece out of a sheet of copper. Then I sand it, drill holes (if needed) and finish the edges before getting out the enamel. The enamel forms a glass on top of the copper, so it needs to be ready to go! Enameling is the last step in making the piece.
I then Decide on designs, shapes, words, pictures, and colors. I usually create a base color (typically white, something light) before I draw the designs with the lead-free enamel with a toothpick. This takes time, but i enjoy manipulating the enamel around to see what I can get. :)
As, you can see with my photos, I have made earrings, magnets, necklaces, YOU NAME IT! Im enameling everything in our house. If you have something in mind, let me know... I would love to make it! I love working with the colors, the torch, and the copper. You can view more photos at my website

Wednesday night I participated with Etsy Austin in BOTG! Great Music, Loads of People, and some GREAT Handmade buddies to work with. :)

I am encouraged and excited to learn something from each event. And excited to get more practice at other events.

Lessons Learned~

~bring water and a fan when its 100 degrees outside!

~bring tags for your items with inventory # when you are sharing a space

~Learn from others about different ways to get your stuff out there, and help one another, this is not a competition, but a team effort to encourage people to buy handmade

~wind proof displays

~efficient, and easy to set up displays

~be willing to "sell" you product. Merritt Gade, a fellow fabulous Jewelry designer (check out her tiaras here) put it well; you aren't selling yourself, you are working FOR your product. Treat it as someone elses, and you are the rep. It makes it easier and less personal. that was a paraphrase, i cant remember exactly her quote... I blame the fact that my brain probably melted in the heat!

~DO NOT BARGAIN! this is not a flea market, you are cheapening the fact that you
put hours and hours into your designs, and its not fair to other artists!
~I also learned from Pixieworx, an amazing crochet artist, that crochet is an art form that cannot be reproduced by machine! So, that means when you are buying mass produced crochet items, al too often, they are from child labor. Elderly & kids are the larger demographic involved. Depends on the nation & culture.why is this bad? It's bad 4 developing kids due to repetitive motion injury to developing cartilage. Bad for elderly as long use deteriorates. YUCK! buy handmade!

Hello friends! I am so overwhelmed with creativity lately that I havent updated in a while! A couple of updates ~

NEWS:

~I have Joined Team Etsy Austin! what a great way to connect and support other fellow creatives!

~Participated in 1st Thursdays on S.Congress in front of MamboBerry! ( you will see me there whenever I can get out, but especially 1st thursdays! Nothing like setting up and enjoying a Yummy FroYo while I work! :) Not to mentioned, I got interviewed by the Republic of Austin blogger! check it out over on my links; theres a video at the bottom of the page.

~Last Saturday I participated with other EtsyAustin artist in the Austin Handmade Market. What a charming and delightful experience. They even provided a cooler of ice water for the vendors...such thoughtfulness. If you havent visited them yet, check it out! Was interviewed by a very pleasant freelance reporter Amy Hadley :); hasn't been posted yet.

Creatively Speaking,

I have really been into cutting shapes out of copper and torching and enameling them. No photos yet (broken camera) but soon! So far my favorite is a "swoosh" (not the Nike kind) that I enameld with Colbalt Blue, turquois, and spots of white, creating almost a wave over the pendant. I dont know if I can part with it. Also, I have been taking the scraps of copper and making little tiny roses to go on my hairpins! let me tell you something; CUTE! I cannot wait to share.

Last but not least,

I want to show how grateful I am that God has blessed this business and Africa. If you are not aware, half of my proceeds go to Kenya, Africa. I went over in 2007 and fell in love with the Joy, Kindness and Faith of the villagers in Bongoma. I was overjoyed to know, that from the $$$ from Ruby Slipper Designs; it contributed to a purchase of $3,000 in maize! thats feeding alot of villagers folks. And I am just overjoyed that I can share my heart for those amazing brothers and sisters with you more and more, in Austin!

Shooting Stars...

As I was sitting at a lovely rooftop party listening to some accoustical magic, I saw a shooting star. After making a wish, of course, I started to ponder the magic of this and the things I was inspired to create from it. Then this morning, I was on my way to work, where I spotted a rainbow in the rearview mirror. I just had a 12hr period of natures magical art presented to me in lovely ways. I am now thinking of the stuff I can design (lightening bolts,stars, and fabric rainbow canvases)

All of this to say, I have been reflecting on my urge to GET HOME and MAKE STUFF! I smile and shrug my shoulders as I think of how God uses nature to inspire us and plant ideas in our head. The creative mind is always inspired by the things surrounding. I feel we never stop working. What a gift to be motivated by the little things that happen everyday. So, I have gotten into some markets and learned what is selling. now, i must market the customized items and sell the already made ones in a great spot. I have been told that my haripins are going to be "my thing" and they ARE! man. people are digging on the vitage fabric flowers in your hair. yess. the way to go. hurry, come and get yours when i set up shop on South Congress in Austin, TX this Thurdsday night! :) Thats correct! come and see me behind the Downtown Austin skyline. I am learning its all about your research and finding your high profit margin item. Upon, doing a market for the past four weeks, where the market was oversaturated with jewelers. I have learned to find what sells...and make a BUNCH! for example, if you would like to sell 30 items you have to make 60. I have learned to balance out what I am presenting to the clients. Have a few larger, higher priced items and many smaller $$ items that people can purchase and not think about it.
~something different and unique that others do not offer.
~something people can easily fit into a purse or bag if they are tarveling
~something that you can produce quickly.

For me; I have been selling the mess out of hairpins. By taking vintage fabrics, cutting them into cool shapes and hardening them. I follow that by beading them on to little bobby pins. GREAT item. very different, and super cute for todays hair styles. A winner in my book.

Its been a minute. I know. heres where I have been......making neckalces,hairpins and so forth with FEATHERS! lots and lots of gorgeous feathers. :-) I am at the Gypsy Market Every weekend through July 31 located at "the sunset capitol of Texas"; The Oasis ( on Lake Travis)

I know..its been a while..in the blogger world anyway. my mind has been overflowing with creativity and ideas lately. however, we have been moving from Atlanta, GA to Austin, TX since my last update. And now we are moving into another place in austin. I figure I will Jot down some of the ideas that have been flowing..much is growing.... still to be made.

So some things I have been diving into with creations...the city of austin flows with creative inspiration!

sewing, sewing sewing..... bags of all sorts, pillows, canvases, clothes, you name it! Embellishing with hand stictched embroidery... wow! this has been a fun one.. a simple creative stitch can express so much on a piece. Now I have been inspried to cut out shapes with fabric, harden them and ebroider the edges, creating a pendant for jewelry or wine charms alike! yes, this is the newest venture my friends. Also, Feathers, Texas has an abundance of ranches, with birds, and birds tend to shed feathers... go figure! haha those feathers creat amazing accessories..especially hair clips and necklaces.

Resin, oh the possibilities! wind chimes! i want to do wind chimes with copper, torch work and resin pieces! how fun right?

So to distrubute all of these creations I have started applying for farmers markets and local festivals! what a great way to work... create and sell your stuff outside all day with great environments and fabulous music.

So my first attempt at soldering a piece.. went AWESOME! :-) I tumbled these rocks for about 4 weeks and then created a 'case' for the stone out of sterling silver. FUN the earrings are also soldered into the silver casing. the blue color that the stone created did not make it hard to create great jewelry!

I have been enjoying the use of my hammer and hammering block. great stress relief. :-) these earrings and pendant set have been a hit. I have now made this sterling silver pendant my 'default' every time I am looking for a piece to wear. The heart has yet to find a necklace 'home'. I usually wait until it grabs me before just putting something together. I guess that is the 'artsy' in me. My pieces have the need to be inspired by a design,painting,emotion, or just an outfit. The heart pendant will be entitled "tie the knot" when it has been complete. these simple pieces are great wardrobe staples with a personalized and unique vibe. Let me know if you want one. :-)

here is the event that I did this weekend. great success, for my first juried show. got honorable mention and won a gift card. BONUS! not to mention, there was some cash in it as far as sales go, as well!!

here are a few shots of the festival and my table. my husband created a rockin playlist, and we had fresh tea from Teafusions. my booth will show some of my canvases and textiles also. I am broadening my horizons. its some pretty sweet action if you ask me! Thanks for all of your support!

hey all! I just wanted to post a new photo and update. I have been getting ready for a recent art show I had. GREAT SUCCESS! photos to come. :-) until then....

I love the vibrant colors of these designs.n i know its getting cold...but im thinking, what an addition to brighten up winter drab. It reminds me of the BRISK and CRISPY feeling that winter has when the sky is just as vibrant blue as you can imagine. almost a COOL MINTY feeling... funny since these earrings remind some of lifesavers candy. I love how the wiring on the earrings finishes off with a bow. kinda of like a christmas present. So even though some might suggest the colors to cool for the season, I challenge you to brighten up your wardrobe and warm the spirit with some of rubys slippers custom designs. ;-)

This pendant and earring set is inpired by my recent time at the beach in Florida. I would go to the beach at around 6:00 a.m. to watch the sunrise and pick through the abundance of shells on the shore. This is prime time for shell hunting! Isnt it neat how nature provided a coordinating set of shells for this one of a kind set! I picture this being worn in the fall/winter season; paired with a black ensemble. Perect for an evening out.

Perfect Imperfection

these were and accidental success! thats usually how it happens right? i hammered these sterling circles, and did not like the off balance essence they produced. one day, in a light mood and craving a freedom, i wanted to use the shells. I did not think that the lack of perfection in the 'circles' would be accepted by customers, so I used them for myself.

Since then, more people have asked me to reproduce these than i could imagine!

Not only was this a creative success; but it was a life lesson. Often times I feel as though we see all of our imperfections and dont consider ourselves "balanced" or "flawless" enough for others. feeling unworthy we tend to sell ourselves short; and not put ourselves out there.

Life Lesson: God showed me that as others saw the earrings as amazing and desireable (not noticing the 'flaws' I did). This is how others see us and most of all how he ALWAYS sees us. as his perfect children.

Thank you: ...for letting me share with you, my personal growth as well as my gift of design. I share these things; because I feel as though we all desire to grow and be seen as special and inspiring. And I find Joy in sharing these epiphanies of my own with others. even if its just meant for one person to receive; its worth it. I know they are 'just earrings" but the are my way of learning some simple lessons.

Thats why I think its so neat that we are all different!

anywhoo; they are fun and free earrings; regardless of the depth you get from them.

I seem to find no matter how hard I try. God created me a little off-balance. I even find it in my designs. Symmetry is not my thing. These Chandelier earrings are no different. Sure to shine at any event!

these have become my new everyday wear earrings.

How I made them :

~ taking 1' of sterling silver chain

~ put three beads of choice on the chain (place them in reverse order to how they will fall on the earrings)

~wind the chain in three circles/rounds to the size you desire

~ take sterling silver wire and finish off the chain by wrapping tightly around the top

~finish off with handmade sterling earwire

I was listening to that song today. it just really struck me. anyway. in a time of turmoil nothing good ever comes of being bitter. you never know who you might touch with your compassion,joy,encouragement, or LOVE. :-) these earrings completely handmade of hammered sterling and copper make me feel like living that way. they are just lovely.

these pieces are handmade one of a kind pendants. ABOVE: copper pendant with sterling silver nugget inlay. torched after creating to give purple/blue hues with flame. Necklace is composed of mother of pearl,semi-precious stones, swarovski crystal, handmade Africa beads, and gold-filled wire. BELOW: completely handmade, one of a kind, copper flower pendant with copper wire and a touch of glam with a swarovski crystal center

So, I have been having encounters with butterflies nonstop lately. Word on the street is, this is a great sign of good stuff to come. ;-) YES PLEASE. I'll take it. So I have listed a few photos of the butterflies around and some of the jewelry I have created in light of these encounters.

rockin bracelet

Hey there friends! I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend. I have designed a pretty cool new bracelet. At least I think its pretty fantastic. :-) I took a picture of the area I was looking at to show the connection of the space you are in and the influence it can make on your creativity. if you notice there are lots of reds around me. and shocker! check out the colors i used in this design. this bracelet is a combination of sterling silver, vintage buttons (thank you mamaw) shells and Swarovski crystals. I didn't plan on this design. its neat to see what you come up with when you sit back and allow God and his creation design for you. steps I took for this bracelet:

1~cut about a 2" long piece of sterling silver. (.25" wide)

2~hammered the piece of silver and sanded the edges

3~drilled holes in the silver pieces, randomly by eye

4~ took sterling silver wire and basically "sewed" the assortment of beads and buttons on the silver using the wire as my 'thread'. :-)

5~ attached the piece to chain and handmade clasp to make a fabulous bracelet.

Introducing Gracie~lou. She is our puppy. this little wonder, is so full of personality it amazes me. she has an OCD obsession with the ball. so badly, that we have to hide it in the freezer to block her sniffer from finding it. In the second picture , she is rolling it to my foot. she is indeed, a mess.

she is so persistent. this is a lesson, for me, at the start of a pursuit of a career as an artist. the road can be tough, but overcome. I was in my first Gallery last month, and learning as I go along; I will now be organized and prepared for the next one on Oct 26th! Things are moving; after a time of feeling as if I might be wasting time.

next step- instead of just thinking about getting my stuff in; I am thinking ahead and preparing the complete package. which sometimes; as a creative person, im not so much on the small details. but, to succeed it is necessary.

I am excited that you are along for the ride with me; and I will be sharing as I come along. :-)

greetings friends~

I am excited to post my next blog. it will have photos and everything. i am so elated about getting this process started. Joy&patience have seemed to be my theme for today. maybe because i was wearing a skirt that i embellished that actually said 'JOY'. haha. it is funny to see where you are led as the day proceeds and what lessons are presented. When the creative get inspired i feel as though we try to run with it like a mad tornado. and God really teaches you in daily conversations and happenings.

everything that I encountered today was screaming patience either to me or my peers. my conclusion...be JOYFUL and wait for the plans.. in the long haul this will pay off way more that running with every whimsical inspiration.

~gorgeous butterfly landing on my shoulder creating a dance of curiosity between us both.

My Conclusion:
